Defleur

"The Media has selective influences on people"

I agree with Defleur's theory above, as I believe that the media does in fact have an effect on the public whether it's in a positive or negative way.

My film and tv choices I have talked about are examples of media where you are likely to get an influence on some people, and which I am looking at the geeky influences that may have occurred. In American Pie there are the particular characters such as Finch and Stifler who are at different wave lengths when it comes to confidence and popularity. These noticeable aspects about them may influence an audience to not be like either of the two characters as they have unfortunate experiences or unexpected reputations.
The 40 Year Old Virgin has an immediate influence on its audience as they find the storyline funny and don't like the idea of it all happening to themselves. On the other hand, the personal side to this mans way of life may come off influential as well, based on the fact he just hasn't had the opportunity.

American Pie (1999)

American Pie is an american teen sex comedy which focuses on a group of high school students who make a pact to lose their virginity before their high school graduation. Jim, Oz, Kevin and Finch all undergo experiences that will stick with them for life as they attempt to succeed with the pact. I thought this film was relevant to nerds and geeks as some of the cast could come across as having certain nerdy features about them, whether it's how they look or their personality. Throughout the film you see embarrassing situations happen amongst the group, whether it's the popular or the unpopular.

The following clip shows a prank that Stifler plays on Finch at school. Stifler being the overly confident guy he is, thought it would be funny to put Pentalax in Finch's drink.
